So what’s new

We are all being bombarded on news of Global warming, and some of us may be doing little bits here and there to reducing our impact. As a small family run business we don’t have the big budgets of a plc to install solar power etc, but we had a discussion and even we a little business can aim to work a little bit greener.
After all every little bit we do can help the big picture, and hopefully save some pennies in the process.

When we went through what we were doing to be greener, we were happily surprised at how much we actually did without it being a major chore, in our busy working day.

So what are we doing, well first our products have very green credentials.

Why have multiple races cars tearing around a track belching out CO2 when you can run a simulator with no exhaust emissions. What’s more, no having to transport teams of people to a track to race. When one Jemlar vehicle can come to you. Saving on travel miles and travel time for your staff and guests.

We are currently transferring our company vehicles over to Bio-diesel. We source the 100% recycled cooking oil type from a local firm.

Bio-diesel doesn’t produce sulphur emissions, like normal petro-chemical diesel.

In our administration we aim to send all our correspondence via e-mail, including contracts and invoices.
Why? It saves on the extra paper from the envelopes and the post office’s fuel to deliver the letter. It also has the extra advantage of arriving quicker.

In our office we recycle all marketing post we receive that isn’t required, we also shred and compost old paperwork. So no landfill.

We use laptops in our office, as they consume less power that traditional PCs. This also allows our staff more flexible working, so home working is easier. Again saving on commuting fuel emissions.

We aim to recycle our old PC equipment by passing it on to charities who either overhaul it and pass it on to the needy in the UK or strip it for it’s precious metals.

Old printer cartridges and old mobile phones are recycled to benefit local charities.

We purchase recycled products like office paper, kitchen roll and loo roll.

Our staff like to find novel ways of reusing shipping packaging, recently a very large wooden crate, which had been used to ship a full size F1 simulator overseas. Sadly it was unable to be used again as a crate, but staff have turned the plastic wrapping sheet into weed suppressant in a children’s play area. The wood panels from the crate have been separated, and then have been used to build a raised bed in a garden allotment. So that the wooden crate will now be providing years more service.

We’re not resting on our laurels, being all smug on what we have achieved. Jemlar will keep trying to reduce it’s impact. If we all make small steps, then together we can make huge improvements.

And in the words & spirit of my son’s favourite TV character Bob the Builder
Reduce, Re-used, Recycle.
